Building The Family Board

October 12, 2026 · Fourthstar

The Family Board started with a plain problem: we needed one place for the calendar, the chores, the kids' screen time, and what happens when things don't get done. Every app we tried covered one or two of those. None of them tied them together.

The first version

The first version was a shared board for one household with a calendar, a chore list that could be edited and checked off, a screen-time schedule, and a consequences area. Parents could see what the kids checked off. Kids could see only what they needed to.

Making it work for every family

Turning a one-family tool into an app anyone can use meant rebuilding the foundation. Each family now gets its own private space, and the database keeps every family's data separate. Parents create the family and add profiles for the kids, and kids never need their own accounts. A family code and a parent PIN keep the right people in the right places.

What we added along the way

  • Named schedule blocks for each kid's day, with different days of the week and a one-tap copy.
  • Calendar events with several people that also land on each person's schedule.
  • Rewards with points from chores, a parent-built menu, and parent approval on every redemption.
  • Consequences that are either a countdown or a checklist of tasks to finish.

What we left out on purpose

No ads. No selling data. No tracking across other apps. Kids' profiles hold a first name and a color, and nothing else. The privacy policy spells out exactly what the app collects.

Where it is now

The Family Board is live on Google Play. We're a small independent studio, so the best way to help is to try it with your family and tell us what's missing at hello@fourthstar.online.
